IAT = I am thankful
I love technology and how it allows me to listen to great things while I walk and drive. And I love the Sabbath day, where I can rest from the daily cares and chores.

I am very thankful that I CAN lose weight
IAT = I am thankful
I've been misleading myself for years. I really have tried exercise, diet, and anything else I could thin of...dropping carbs, going without sugar, and so on. When I got back from California a few weeks ago, I had gained 4 more pounds! Trying to be good too. Sheesh! I don't like traveling for that reason.
I made a vow to be good for 30 days. 6 days a week exercise. Increase fruits and veggies, eliminate sugar, decrease fat and carbs. I should be at 10 pounds any day now. I was hoping to lose more quicker, but the last few days I've had nibbles of sugar. Grr. That slows me down. My progress is kept on the accountability page up there at the top of this page.
Like today. I had a green smoothie for breakfast. But, I so desperately wanted it to be creamy, so I made coconut milk and dumped it all in. However, my kids helped me "eat" it. I had V8 juice for lunch and some dried apricots. I had a snack of barbecue chicken pieces and then for dinner, a healthy piece of pizza, and a not so healthy piece plus a salad. Not too bad.
I usually have fruit or fruit slushy or fruit smoothie for breakfast. I think even that is probably too much sugar for me. I seem to be so sensitive. But, I am going to keep at it. I've only missed exercise twice in 3 weeks. I feel good overall about how I am eating. And I hope I get in five more pounds before my trip next week. :-)
Of course, with traveling, I'll probably pick that five back up. So, I need a plan! Hmmm.
Almost 3 years ago I gained 20 pounds over 2 months completely unexplainably. Dropping that would bring me great satisfaction. If I do or don't after that, I'm fine with it. So, only 10 more pounds. Or more. :-) I'm going to keep being healthy. Once I reach my goal, I'll drop my exercise down to three times a week.

WHAT DID YOU SAY???? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!
IAT = I am thankful
Ok, I am thankful for texting. Some times, you just need a quick answer, and a quick text does the trick. Some times something is on your mind and a text makes it easy to help you remember and take care of later. However there are some things about texting that I really don't care for. (I believe passionate words should be used for positive things, therefore I will not use hate, despise, etc).
People who text while driving are stupid. It's only a matter of time before you die. Resist the temptation and turn your phone off. Haven't you seen any of the gory texting videos? "LOL" could be the death of you. And how would someone else feel if they found out you died while they were texting you?
People texting in church. Really? Texting in church has to be one of the RUDEST things ever. Unless you are a Dr, a cop, or hmmm the Pres of the United States, I can't think of a single reason to have your cell phone on in church. And even those are pushing it. Texting while someone is teaching shows a total lack of concern for all of the preparation they have put into a lesson. (Sorry if that offends). Oh well.
And my number one texting and email pet peeve. SENDING ME A MESSAGE IN ALL CAPS. WHAT THE HECK!!! WITH LOTS OF EXPLANATION MARKS. I AM SORRY BUT IT REALLY SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE YELLING AT ME AND I DON'T LIKE IT!!!! AND I KNOW YOU KNOW HOW TO TEXT ME WITHOUT ALL CAPS BECAUSE I'VE SEEN YOU DO IT SO DON'T TELL ME YOU DON'T. THERE IS SOMEONE IN MY LIFE RIGHT NOW WHO SHALL REMAIN NAMELESS THAT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY WITH THIS, BUT IT'S A SITUATION I REALLY CANNOT ADDRESS UNTIL SOME THINGS HAPPEN FIRST. Ok, I think that is enough. You get what I am saying? If you text me in all caps I am not answering. This person I have to, but I think I am going to give them a call and tell them to please stop.
Oh and that is really the final thing. Texting really important stuff that should be face to face. I am NOT going to do that unless you refuse to talk face to face. One thing real estate has taught me that I am SO grateful for, is to say tough things to a person's face. I can have just about any kind of conversation with anyone anymore, because I have learned to be straight up, put on my big girl boots and give it or take it like a woman. *IF* it is done respectfully and kindly.
So, if you plan on breaking up with me, not paying me money you owe me, or not keeping a commitment, or need to address emotional issues, DO NOT TEXT ME. Let's all put on our big boy and girl boots and play it straight. Ok, I think that is all. I feel better now. :-)

IAT for new opportunities
IAT = I am thankful
I am doing little happy dances all over the place. I've had some unexpected real estate opportunities. I should keep it at that. But it should be the best year I've ever had. And I am falling on my knees grateful. When you've lived in a drought and nearly died of thirst, a few drops of water are heaven sent. But when Someone turns on a hose, lets you drink until you're full and then you lie in a pool of water soaking......that's a good recovery. :-)

IAT for FHE
IAT = I am thankful
I am writing tonight for yesterday. Last night was Family Home Evening. Family Home Evening, fondly known as FHE, is for fun family time. It is also used to teach lessons as needed. Sometimes we play games. Sometimes we attend kids events as a family. Often we have lessons on gospel or life topics.
We've had a few things on our minds. Like getting more real and honest with our kids about immorality and the appeal the world gives to it. As well as the lies that Satan tells about it. We've had more than one experience in our family with unsolicited pornography. One of them was me! If you missed that horrible story, you can read about it here. Virtue Bandits
The Bish and I realized that the only way to combat the inevitable in this day and age is to shine light on it. Bring it out into the open. And continue discussions about it on a regular basis. I feel a little like Jacob in the book of Mormon, while he addressed the topics of chastity, etc when he said:
So, we took a deep breath and in front of our remaining young ones, including the seven year old, had a pretty frank discussion. We told them we will be asking them on a regular basis about these things. The Bish did a wonderful job of explaining how Satan warps beautiful things into ugliness and how he lies to get us to cover up and hide.
We told them sin is sin is sin. And Jesus has already paid the price for us. He just wants us to repent and turn to him. And we told them we will always love them no matter what and that if they come to us with their troubles we will help them make that change and turn their hearts and be healed. It was really a great lesson. And I think they took it seriously and took it to heart. Rearing children in the latter days is certainly not for sissies.

And also it grieveth me that I must use so much boldness of speech concerning (this topic), before your wives and your children, many of whose feelings are exceedingly tender and chaste and delicate before God, which thing is pleasing unto God;I wish we lived in the 50s and could just hope that good parenting, a close community, faith in God, and a little luck would get us through just fine. But we don't live in that world anymore. The truth is, if you are not being very truthful about the s-e-x word, pornography, friends with benefits, alcohol, drugs, and a whole host of other current teen challenges....chances are your child will adopt the values of his friends and not yours.

IAT for tapping
IAT = I am thankful
I've swallowed *A LOT* of supplements in my day. I prefer to doctor my own myself and only use pharmaceuticals or doctors with the most severe symptoms. I used to be able to swallow an entire handful of herbs or nutritional capsules. And then one day, I just got fed up. Haha. Pun. It's been a few years, but I just quit taking everything one day, for many, many months.
I am back to taking supplements, but at least once a year, that feeling hits me and I just stop. Then when I feel ready again, I start again. Well, recently I started again. I am currently taking (and not very consistently) Barley Life, a multi-vitamin, an herbal remedy for the nervous system, and a hormonal herbal product.
I had only taken them together a few times when I realized something was WRONG. Something was making me extremely nauseous. I thought it was a fluke, so I laid off for a few days. Tried again, same thing. The likely culprit was the hormonal thing, so I dropped it. Then I decided just to take the BL. The last time I took more than that, I had a HUGE wave of nausea overtake me. Lots of salivating, etc. I'll say here, I am blessed with the uncanny ability, make that inability, to throw up. It's true. Since 2nd grade, I've only thrown up once. And that was only because I had taken too much lobelia and that is a side effect from it. Dry heaves all day and since I had a touch of the flu, well, we can stop there.
Anyway, the last time, I just got my fingers out and tapped all the meridian points, and within a couple of minutes, VOILA! All better. So, today I got brave and took the BL, the multi, and the Composure capsule. Not 5 minutes later, oh dear! That feeling is so awful when you can do nothing about it. Believe my I have stuck my finger down my throat in desperation many times to no avail.
Happy day though. Again, within two minutes everything settled with my tapping. Oh how I love EFT. And if you have no clue what I am talking about, you can check out:

IAT for rattles on rattlers
IAT = I am thankful
So, I am exercising every day. And you can see how that is going on the accountability page. A couple of days ago, the Bish and I went for an evening walk. It really was dark and stormy, but that made it nice and cool. We walked one mile out and one mile back. We had made it out a mile and had just turned around to come back. After about 100 yards, we heard the familiar sound that I do not love to hear. He was only six feet away right on the edge of the road and we'd never seen him on the way out.
He was up and ready to strike. But thankfully, when you hear that sound, you oblige him and get away. We did turn around and take a nice look at him, because as evil as they are, they are "strikingly" beautiful. Haha. But, without the rattle, there might have been a less happy outcome. Instead, we just enjoyed our walk home.

IAT Facebook?
IAT = I am thankful
So, I hear often enough that people think I spend a lot of time on facebook. Fair enough. I have several status updates and posts a day. But consider a few things. I live in a town of less than 1000 people. Maybe only 700. Consequently there is not much to do. (Excuse--there is plenty to do in my house). I am a very social person but have very few social opportunities and that is true. I like social networking. I just do. So, sue me.
Here's the deal. I get on 5 or 6 times a day for about 5 minutes, sometimes 10. So, I am spending maybe an hour a day on facebook. I also like to do math. Heehee. Remind me to tell you sometime how many diapers I've changed. :-) Here's the other deal. Every person who comments on my facebook usage, I'd like to ask the following question. So, how much tv do you watch? Shopping do you do? (I don't do much of that here either). Computer or phone games do you play? I don't do that stuff.
And I watch ZERO tv. Total waste of time in my book. So, choose your time waster. I love facebook. Hello facebook friends!

10 things I love about him
IAT = I am thankful
The last few days have been crazy, so that is how it is. I post when I can. I like it to be daily, but I am not going to stress over it. I LOVE Philosopher's Notes. (click here). I take them with me on trips and when I go walking. So much wisdom, so little time. That's what's good about them. You don't have to read an entire book to get some great ideas to improve your life. I just love the creator of them and he is a very generous person. I lost all my printed notes when we had our flood in February and he not only replaced them, he gave me every other product he has. He also gives out "scholarships."
So yesterday I was listening while I walked and I can't even remember which one, because I listened to two. But he was saying that in order to have a great relationship (and this can be predicted), there needs to be 5 positive interactions for every one negative. If you are in a friendship or relationship where there is mostly negative interaction, I have news for you. It's not going to last. The suggestion was to make sure that those YOU love have 5 positive interactions each day and he actually suggested 10. So, he wanted me to make a list. I can't make a list while I am walking. So here are 10 things I love about my most important relationship.
In no particular order.
*He is taller than me. Heehee. Very few people are.
*He is the most patient person I know.
*He looks good in jeans. I see him in them so rarely. Suits every day.
*Even when I am in the wrong, he is willing to apologize. (That I am in the wrong.) jk. Haha.
*He is amazingly wise. I like to seek his counsel.
*He has great hair!
*He is a most kind, and loving, and generous husband and father.
*He puts himself last. (I don't really love that, but I can appreciate it).
*He's a natural leader and would NEVER seek to lead.
*He's a great listener. (When we get a few minutes) :-)
BONUS: He's an incredible handyman. He can fix the struts on a car or build a house.
and that's just the tip of the iceberg. :-)

IAT, oh heck I forgot--Harry Potter
IAT = I am thankful
I'm falling down on the blog. Haha. We went to see Harry Potter 7 last night. I'm grateful for the Harry Potter movies. I know that sounds dumb, especially since at first, I was very ANTI Harry Potter. I had reservations about witches and magic, etc. And then realized the stories I read in my childhood never led me to become the characters in those stories. And besides, there are so many good symbols and parallels in HP.
Particularly in the last one. We had fun going for FHE. I'd love to see it again.

tacos!
IAT = I am thankful
The Bish makes a mean taco. We have taco night about once a week, sometimes once every two weeks. I usually don't eat the shell. The RM and the Beast were home for a visit (thanks for the piano tune Beasty), and they wanted dad's tacos. So, we had grandma over and made a party of it. The only thing that would have made it perfect is if Noah did not have a migraine. But thanks to friends with emergency home remedies. Thanks Michelle.
Anyway, when it's taco night, Sister Bishop does not cook. But, I'd better go clean up the kitchen. Tonight I just went with the flow and ate two tacos. Yummm.

IAT for the winds of change
IAT = I am thankful
There has been a challenge of late in the Norton house. My real estate job tanked over a year ago, and it's finally beginning to recover in wonderful ways. I am really grateful for that. I am also grateful I've had other ways to make up some of the difference.
And I forgot to write last night. This is what I was thankful for. I've lived in the desert 17 years and never seen a marmot. But this little guy crossed the road right in front of us on the way home. Cool.

IAT for new friends!
IAT = I am thankful
I have a friend that I like. A lot.
We work together in YW and she is also my daughter's dance teacher. She really puts her heart and soul into my girls and many others.
She introduced me to another friend I like. Their son and daughter are getting married soon.
We've had some fun and she and her husband are so very generous. Especially in a crisis! We are still becoming friends, but I really love her too. We have some things in common.
The engaged son and daughter.
Great couple! Aren't they lovely?
She introduced me to her sister-in-law.
Their husbands are brothers and funny story, the brothers (plus 3 others) grew up with my hubby and his 4 brothers. So, we're practically related. :-) Haha. Anyway, this week she was in Duncan for a few days. She was bored, I was bored. It was the perfect combination. So, one day we went to Safford and did some light shopping. And then the next day, I threw together a shindig and I attempted to but didn't really finish some crafting. However Katee went nuts with bibs. But I digress. Then today we took our kids up to the Morenci pool. Tomorrow she goes home. But we had some great chats, and we have some things in common and I just love discovering new pals. So thanks to Jodi, because of Vicki, because of Missy. You can never have too many friends. :-)

Then today we took our kids up to the Morenci pool. Tomorrow she goes home. But we had some great chats, and we have some things in common and I just love discovering new pals. So thanks to Jodi, because of Vicki, because of Missy. You can never have too many friends. :-)

I really don't give a care!
IAT = I am thankful
I have bottled up my feelings long enough. This won't get posted on facebook, so only people who follow me, just because, will likely ever read it. I'm fine with that. This is for me. This is for standing up for myself. This is for getting it off my chest. It will still be vague, but if you live near me, chances are you'll figure out who it is. This is because I'd love to give this person a piece of my mind, but it would likely do no good. And this is because this person cannot hurt me anymore. And I am celebrating that.
It's very hard for me to believe people are evil. It is easy to see when they are choosing evil. So even though I feel this person has done a lot of harm...way more harm than good...and the person did do good, I still feel that there are very sad reasons for it. And in spite of the ugly actions of this person, I can honestly say I have forgiven and continue to pray for him/her. This is my experience...my perception. There are likely some people that had fine and dandy interactions. There are some who likely had no interaction. And, the interactions I had were on a basic level just fine. It was what was going on behind that will take me some time to return to being trusting of some.
I never knew that asking simple questions could get you in so much trouble.
I never knew that facing a challenge with a person face to face could result in slander, name calling, gossip, false accusations, and loss of income.
I never knew that continuing to be kind to someone in spite of a negative experience, and apologizing for my own problems, could get me absolutely nowhere.
I never knew that people who know you personally could believe such untrue and outlandish things about you.
I never knew that one year I could be so confident and happy about myself, my dealings with others, and my life in general, and the next year I could be practically a loner with barely any friends (it felt like it anyway) dreaming of nothing but moving, and crying way too often and quivering at the thought of certain things.
I never knew I could be treated so unprofessionally repeatedly, and be able to suck it up, keep it to myself, and just keep swimming.
I never knew that in spite of all that happened I could still be eternally grateful for a particular influence from this very same person.
I never knew that my husband could have so much patience and understanding over and over and over and over as issues continued to occur.
I never knew that I could turn to my sisters for escape and be completely uplifted and supported.
I realized eventually that I was not a slave to the situation and I could go find joy in many other places and people.
I realized eventually that I still had choices and I still had personal power.
I realized eventually that prayer was almost the only thing to get me through and miraculously change the situation.
I realized eventually that it wasn't me, it didn't matter what I did or didn't do, some people are just miserable, mean, and vindictive.
I realized eventually that I can still realize the above and feel sorry for, pray for, and wish for happiness for someone obviously in so much need.
I realize now that situations can change in an instant and sometimes it just requires retreat, meditation, and hanging in there. I am so glad the resolution has come and life is moving guardedly, albeit hopefully forward. I know trust will eventually return. And caution will be left far behind as a distant memory. Until then, I am stepping back into my old happy confident self. And that is something I do care about!

IAT social gatherings
IAT = I am thankful
Oops, I missed the last two days. I stayed up too late. On a whim yesterday, I planned a chat and craft at my house. It was fun. I don't know why one friend showed up and left, but I missed her. Two more showed up and we had fun sewing, chatting, somehow the eating didn't happen. But I am fine with that since I am in restriction mode. I just felt like a horrible hostess not serving something. I got fabric cut for recovering chairs, which I could not do because I could not find the stapler.
I also got fabric cut in strips for Chris' quilt I am making. It was supposed to be graduation. I decided it's better for return home quilt. I can sew the strips now. Anyway, I think I will do it again. I had fun. It's nice to be with girls and just spend time together. Even with kids running under foot. Which made it all the more fun, since my kids aren't so under foot anymore. :-)

So thankful for mended fences
IAT = I am thankful
There is someone in this town I really like. I've known her for a few years and she works closely with my children. I don't know how or why, but something happened. And then there was tension. Well, I kind of know what happened, but I try to protect guilty parties. And it WASN'T her. Consequences from the details, caused me many restless nights, and the shedding of many tears. I didn't feel circumstances allowed me to settle this problem or find out how to solve it. So, for months, I've been praying and in my heart expecting, at least hoping for, miracles. I am seeing those prayers answered.
I had some pictures I wanted to give her, and so today, on a whim, I drove to her house, and hoped she was there. I was greeted extremely warmly and invited in. Dawn: "oh hooray, maybe there is a chance."
I gave her the pictures which she was so happy to receive. And then I did the only thing I knew to do. Apologized. She told me not to. We chatted briefly. And it ended with a hug. My tears of pain are now tears of gratitude. This isn't a best friend or anything. But I'd love to get to know her better, and all of my relationships are important. And I am so glad, she was so gracious and forgiving. I hope we have new, happy days ahead.
I doubt she even knows I have a blog. But if she should end up reading this, I want her to know I love her for her role in the lives of my children and for another chance. Thank you!!!
